30.6.2009 Open University Business School gets re-accreditation with EQUIS

The European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) has re-accredited The Open University Business School with the EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System) endorsement for another three years.

The re-accreditation means that The Open University Business School is one of 41 business schools in the world that has the triple accreditation of EQUIS, AMBA (Association of MBAs) and AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), the OU reports delightedly.

Speaking about the award, James Fleck, Dean and Professor of Innovation Dynamics said: “Our pioneering method of practice-based learning is perfectly suited to a multinational mobile business community. Our style of teaching is international, mobile and focused on long-lasting results which are all important aspects, as the global business school arena becomes more competitive.”

The rigorous assessment process of the EQUIS commission takes place every three or five years. It looks at all aspects of a business school’s activity, which are divided into ten areas, allowing EFMD to directly compare and benchmark the business schools against each other. The areas of assessment include:
• Context, Governance and Strategy
• Programmes
• Students
• Faculty
• Research and Development
• Executive Education
• Contribution to the Community
• Resources and Administration
• Internationalisation
• Corporate Connections

The EQUIS process requires that both the School and students (independently) provide a self assessment report covering the above areas. This is then ratified by a formal panel visit comprising Deans from other Business Schools and representatives from industry who meet a range of stakeholders which include School faculty, students, corporate sponsors and governing bodies such as the International Advisory board.
